364 Is this Tapasya? (penance)
Is this real tapasya?
All these days I never understood this—is this…
Not speaking anything
And only thinking about you
And worshiping you in my mind
And bowing at your feet—is this….
Doing many things thinking that
Time is not passing
And not becoming tired
And worshiping you with concentration—is this…
Reading whatever I could grab
In order to improve my knowledge
And not confusing my mind
And thinking only your feet—is this…
In order to expand my wisdom
And others to think that I am a wise man
And not babbling many things
And keeping quiet—is this…
Coming unto your feet
And meditating only about your grace
And giving up myself completely
And living only with you—is this…

As I again enjoy my time alone in the ashram, after my evening walk I sat quietly—not reading, no TV, or carnatic music, or not even prayer, but sat quietly just to relax in the Lord. To my surprise the time went quickly I never realized that neither I feel lonely or boring without having any kind of physical or mental activities. Then I said to myself, ‘is it the real tapasya (austerity) which I never understood so far. Then I wrote this song.
364 தவம் இதுவோ
இதுதான் மெய்த் தவமோ
இத்தனை நாள் அறியாதிருந்தேனே—இதுதான்…
ஒன்றும் பேசாதிருந்து
உன்னையே நினைந்திருந்து
சிந்தையில் துதித்திருந்து
சேவடி பணிவதுதான்–இதுதான்…
பொழுது போகவில்லையென
பலப்பல செயல்கள் செய்து
களைத்துச் சோர்வடையாமல்
கருத்துடன் உன்னைப்பணிவதுதான்–இதுதான்…
அறிவைப் பெருக்க எண்ணி
அகப்பட்டெ தெல்லாம் படித்து
சிந்தையைக் குழப்பிடாமல்
திருவடியை நினைப்பதுதான்–இதுதான்…
ஞானத்தை விரிவாக்க
ஞானியெனப் பிறர்நினைக்கப்
பேதமையாய்ப் பலகூறாமல்
வாய்மூடி இருப்பதுதான்–இதுதான்…
உன்னடி வந்தமர்ந்து
உன்னருளை நினைந்திருந்து
என்னையே இழந்திருந்து
உன்னுடன் வாழ்வதுதான்–இதுதான்…
